VIRTUAL OPEN DAY FOLLOW-UP
On 5 May, a small group of us met, all following social-distancing and government guidelines, to film footage that we are presenting in five parts. In sharing these recordings we hope to be able to update you on our news, latest experiences and new product developments and discuss ways in which Claydon Opti-Till® can benefit you and your farm. We will update this page with crop updates over the course of the new few weeks, following them through until harvest in what is becoming another extraordinarily dry year on the Claydon farm.
PART 1: OPTI-TILL® AND SOIL HEALTH
In our introduction, Jeff Claydon, CEO, gives an overview of the Claydon Opti-Till® system and shows how it can help improve soil health, crop establishment and yields, whilst also maximising profit potential in what are challenging times.
PART 2: SOIL RESILIENCE IN A TOUGH YEAR
Dick Neale, Technical Manager from agronomy company Hutchinsons, carries out tests to find out how soil copes with rapid wetting. He digs down into the soil’s structure to assess its resilience in withstanding weather extremes – both torrential rain and drought. He also takes a look at cover crops and the all-important benefits they bring beneath the soil’s surface.
PART 3: CROP WALK AND DISCUSSION
After a very wet autumn and dry spring, we take a tour of Jeff’s crops with Dick Neale from Hutchinsons to see how they are holding up. This year in Jeff’s rotation: winter wheat, oil seed rape, winter beans and spring oats.
A few weeks after the Virtual Open Day, and we see Jeff shooting some update videos of his crops:
Follow up video: spring oats - 28 May 2020
Follow up video: oilseed rape - 2 June 2020
Follow up video: winter wheat - 4 June 2020
PART 4: WORMS: NATURE'S SOIL HEALTH INDICATORS
Simon Revell, Claydon Export Sales Manager, reveals the results of his earthworm survey at the Claydon farm. He shows us how this humble creature can benefit your soil’s ecosystem and crop health.
PART 5: MACHINE DEMO AND TALK-AROUND
In the final part of our Virtual Open Day series, Spencer Claydon demonstrates the 6m TerraBlade inter-row hoe whilst Oliver Claydon gives us a talk-around tour of the Hybrid T6c trailed drill.
Thanks to everyone who took part in our Virtual Open Day, in the presenting, demonstrating, filming and photographing.
